New File Management Features

We’ve had the ability to attach files to shots, elements, assets, tasks and notes for a while now. Some things that are new in the last week or two that you may or may not have noticed:

  • Non-image files are now represented by a file icon. If we can detect the type of file, we show the appropriate icon.
  • We show a little bit more information in the file details: the file size, image size and file type.
  • There is a new ‘bulk upload’ feature. You can select multiple files, set the title, description and thumbnail/reference flags for each one, then upload them all at once with a nice progress indicator.
  • There is a new ‘File’ tab, that shows you all the files that have been uploaded to the system.

If you try these new features out, let me know what you think.

Some other things we are thinking about:

  • Extracting and storing more metadata (like EXIF, etc.)
  • Transcoding video proxies and video storyboards (sequential thumbnails.)
  • Background batch file uploading and downloading.

What other file management features are important to you?
